County officials preach importance of dental health and prevention at Northeast campus

Two representatives from Harris County Public Health emphasized the importance of dental health and prevention to Northeast students during a recent visit.

The curriculum topics included:
  • Proper brushing.
  • What is plaque?
  • What are cavities?
  • Going to the dentist.
  • What effects smoking, drinking and piercings may have on the oral cavity.
The officials presented their message to students in kindergarten through 8th grade, with each session lasting between 45 minutes to an hour.

Every year, the department's licensed dental hygienists provide oral health education to more than 10,000 students in Harris County.

"Access to oral health is a basic human right and there can be no equity in oral health until it is accessible to everyone," it says on the department's website

We thank the county representatives for their time in spreading the word about oral health education!
