Varnett cheer teams dazzle crowd at TSU parade, NE wins first place in drill competition

More than 50 Varnett cheerleaders participated in the Texas Southern University Homecoming Grand Tiger Parade on Saturday, October 29, 2022, with the Northeast cheer team placing first place in the drill teams category.
 
The Southwest cheerleaders, dressed in blue and black, had 25 participants. and the Northeast campus team, clad in blue and black, had 32 members.
 
The parade route began at Canfield and Cleburne streets, then to Emancipation street before ending at Live Oak and Blodgett streets.
 
Before the parade, the cheer teams invested a lot of after-school time practicing, led by Southwest coaches Ms. Francesca Mims, Ms. Dedra Glasco and Ms. Briana Flowers and Northeast coaches Ms. Amber Green, Ms. LaJuana Short and Ms. Latunya Chaney.
 
In a letter to the Northeast campus, parade chair Birtenna Bennett wrote: "I am happy to announce that you are the first-place winner in the drill teams category in TSU's 2022 Homecoming Grand Parade."
 
She added: "Congratulations and thank you for your participation. The parade would not have been a success without you."
 
"They worked really hard!" said Dr. Toron Wooldridge, the Northeast campus director.
 
Thanks to both cheers teams for representing The Varnett Public School.
