Students presented a “Disney Magical Christmas” program before a captive audience Thursday at New Day Deliverance Holiness Church.
The church was a beautiful venue for the special performances in which Ivan Galvin was the master of ceremony and Alexia Gabriel was the mistress of ceremony.
Student Hector Martinez led the Pledge of Allegiance and Campus Director Dora Morrow gave the welcoming remarks.
The special presentations included students performing “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Joy to the World,” “Deck the Halls” and “Up on the House Top,” a Christmas song written by Benjamin Hanby in 1864 in the town of New Paris, Ohio.
Third graders performed a skit entitled “A Christmas Wish/The Magic of Christmas Day,” followed by more songs such as “12 Days of Christmas,” “This Christmas,” and a student performance of “Christmas Cheer Dance.”
Dr. M. Annette Cluff, Varnett’s superintendent, thanked the parents for showing up and used the occasion to explain that the district is reviewing its safety policies in the wake of the mass shootings Dec. 14 at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school. She asked parents to be patient when they are asked to show their ID and told them to expect some changes in safety procedures when their children return to school from their holiday break.
Happy Holiday season to all and have a Happy New Year.
