Who needs Halloween when you can come to Varnett in costume, play games, eat and get scared silly?
Hundreds and hundreds of students and family members celebrated “Carnival Day” October 26, at all three campuses, with staff making sure everybody in attendance had a good ol’ time. While some of the activities varied from campus to campus, the haunted house remained a popular feature at Southwest, Northeast and East campuses.
Southwest showed off carnival-like rides like the ones you see in amusement parks. East used the occasion to bring in medical professionals to do dental checkups and check people’s blood pressure. Northeast, as in previous years, had Houston police officers mounted on horses as children came to pet the friendly animals. One officer event tried his hand on shooting hoops while on his ride.
And, of course, there were refreshments galore on this very comfortable day of family fun. Dr. M. Annette Cluff, the district’s superintendent, and Mr. Alsie Cluff, Jr., Varnett’s facilities and operations director, hit all three campuses during the 5-hour event.
Thanks to all for coming and showing support for your children. And thanks to staff for the hard work they put into the preparation and execution of the event.
And remember: This coming Sunday, Nov. 3, will be the end of Daylight Savings Time. So make sure you set your clock back one hour, following the adage of “spring forward, fall back.”
