The Varnett Northeast Book Fair, held March 17-21, was a huge success. We sold $4,525.88 worth of books and other goodies, up nearly 24 percent from a previous sale this year. We continue to encourage parents to read to their children.
The most popular book for boys was MineCraft: Essential Handbook. It's the first official online guide book on the gaming sensation, MineCraft. We had seven books on back order and the boys were so excited when they finally received their book.
The girls' most popular book was Barbie Princess Life in the Dreamhouse. This book also was a sell-out and on back order.
Other favorite items were The Top Secret Pen and the hand pointer.
Ms. Simpson said the proceeds will be used to purchase more books for the library, including Spanish language books.
The importance of reading to your children is to help them acquire language. It also prepares children for school, helps stimulate their imagination and expands their understanding. We will continue to encourage parents to read to their young children 15 minutes or more a day.
We thank you for your participation in our Scholastics Book Fair.
