Northeast Campus launches school supply drive for Haiti children

This month our students will participate in giving back as they do every month. However, this time we will take our community service project international.  On February 27, Nikala Asante, published author and community activist, visited the campus to speak to our boys and girls about Haiti and the rebuilding that is taking place in the country since the devastating earthquake in 2010

Anse-a-Pitre is a poor rural border town in Southern Haiti.  The students in grades 3rd to 5th will participate in a school supply drive for the The Luxterra School in Anse-a-Pitre, Haiti. The students will collect chalk, pens, pencils, spiral notebooks, crayons, notebook paper, and deflated soccer balls for children to play with at recess. Ms. Asante will depart for Haiti on March 13 with school supplies donated by our students.  When she returns to Houston she will return to Varnett  in late March with pictures of the recipients and share her visit with our students.  Our students are excited about taking their community service internationally.
