Dozens of parents and guardians signed up their children for school bus transportation today, a week before the beginning of school.
Bus drivers sat at tables, issued instructions and gave parents a chance to talk to them. Many children attended as well. The signups continue through Friday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. The signups are being held at the campuses where students will be attending.
Transportation director Kerry Shelton said parents will be given school route bands that go on the arms of children’s backpacks. If the children to do not present the bands after school, they must remain on campus until an authorized adult picks them up.
“No band, no ride,” Mr. Shelton said.
Signup is on a first-come, first serve basis, including for those students who road the bus last school year.
