Much anticipated expansion project begins at Northeast Campus

Work has begun on the expansion of Varnett’s Northeast Campus that will feature two new buildings with six classrooms each and a full-service cafeteria.

Each classroom will be able to accommodate up to 25 students for a total of about 300 additional students. The campus had 521 students as of December, 14, 2015, said Ms. Toni Fisher, campus director.

With the new cafeteria, food service workers will be able prepare the meals at Northeast and serve students on that campus as well as deliver food to students at East.  Currently, all food is prepared at the Southwest Campus and delivered to East and Northeast.

On Friday, workers applied lime for the stabilization of the soil in preparation of the expansion, which will be north of the current campus.

The architect  is  James S Walker Architects.

“We have expectations that the expansion will be completed for the 2016-17 school year,” said Mr. Terrell Russell, general manager of Facilities, Maintenance, Operations & Transportation.
