The modular buildings have started to arrive for the expansion of the Varnett's Northeast Campus set to be ready for the 2016-17 school year.
The expansion will feature two buildings with six classrooms each and a full-service cafeteria. Each classroom will be designed to accommodate up to 25 students, significantly increasing capacity for a campus that now serves 507 students.
The classroom buildings will be 96-feet-6 inches by 64 feet and the cafeteria will be 65 feet by 61 feet, said Mr. Terrell Russell, general manager of Facilities, Maintenance, Operations and Transportation. With the new cafeteria, food service workers will be able to prepare meals at Northeast and serve students there as well as the East Campus. Currently, all food is prepared at the Southwest Campus and delivered to East and Northeast.
Mr. Russell said all of the modular buildings, transported from Desoto,Texas, should be in place by early March. Interior work on the first building should start later this week, Mr. Russell said.
