NE celebrates Grandparents Day and start of National Hispanic Heritage Month

More than 100 grandparents visited Northeast Campus Monday for a belated celebration of Grandparents Day.

In addition to sharing breakfast with their grandchildren, the 112 guests were treated to student presentations featuring family-made posters to commemorate the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

Many grandparents are new to the Varnett charter school this year and they enjoyed the festive activities.

National Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. Many people honor their grandparents through a range of activities such as gift-giving, card-giving, and for children to invite their grandparents to school for a day where they participate in special programs, according to timeanddate.com.

Overall, it was a great kick-off to the 2016-17 school year. Thanks to everybody who joined their grandchildren for 90 minutes of fun.
