African Attire Day at the Varnett School Northeast

By Ms. Toni Fisher
Campus Director

Students and staff celebrated Black History Month by wearing African attire to school on Friday, February 17, 2017.

The students have been learning about the accomplishments of Black Americans as well as studying the accomplishments of blacks around the world.  The staff and faculty also got involved in this celebratory event by dressing in African attire.

Our next Black History Month event is Thursday, February 23, 2017, when our Kids Theatre Company will present, "Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears,"  by Verna Aardema.  This short story was adapted for a reader's theater by the school's director and will be presented to the students during the school day.  The show's finale includes an African dance performed by our third- through fifth-grade girls.
