Youngsters engage in hands-on science activities

East and Northeast pre-k students are doing some hands-on learning about measuring and transferring water in different containers.

“We are teaching students in science how to transfer things from one place to another,” said Ms. Holli Wilkins, East pre-k teacher.

She said the week-long exercise also includes helping students work on their motor skills. Experts describe balance as the ability to maintain a controlled body position during task performance. Static balance, says Kid Sense Child Development, is the ability to hold a stationary position with control. Conversely, dynamic balance is the ability to remain balanced while engaging in movement.

“We also are discussing the different attributes of our containers and which containers are larger and smaller," Ms. Wilkins said.
