Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope everyone had a wonderful break with their loved ones and are ready for the 2018 year. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the families and students who continue to support our school.
Happy New Year and welcome back to school!! With the New Year comes hope and excitement. At a school, it means checking students’ progress and making necessary adjustments to help improve their learning. In the next couple of weeks, we will be giving our district benchmark assessments. The district benchmark assessments will help us measure how our students are progressing. We will be sharing these results and what intervention and extension activities we will be providing our students at our Parent-Teacher Conferences. As always, if you have any questions about how your children are progressing please contact their teacher or me at the school.

January is a very exciting time at our school as we have numerous school-wide events planned for our students. Our family technology night is January 24, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. Come and participate in a fun family night centered around technology and the tools available to help our students succeed. The evening will include our next parent empowerment session, which will focus on the Power of Follow Through and Respect. On Jan. 30, we will have our Winter Showcase, which will include performances from our Varnett Cheer and Dance team as well as our Varnett School Choir. The showcase begins at 5:00 p.m. with a brief PTO meeting prior to the showcase.
Attendance matters and each day your child is out of school, he or she is losing valuable instructional time. Please schedule appointments after school. We will continue to honor and recognize students for their perfect attendance weekly, monthly and every six weeks. Every day counts and therefore, our goal is to increase our attendance rate on a monthly basis.
