NE shares culture, fellowship through poetry

Varnett Public School Northeast had its third Poetry Slam on Friday, April 27, 2018, under the pavilion.

There was a cool breeze and the sun was bright. All students were excited and ready to perform. The competition was between students in pre-k through second grade at 9 a.m. and students in grades 3-6 at 1:30 p.m.

The judges had a difficult job based on the quality of the writing, the quality of the performance, the content of the work and individuality. It was a quality day of learning.

Winners were Ms. Angela Howard's kindergarten class (video) in the categories of individual reciting, small group and whole class. Ms. Kia Suezelle Webster's third-grade class won for whole class performance.

Winners earned an ice cream party with all of the trimmings -  whip cream, pecans, cherries, caramel, sprinkles and, of course. The ice cream came in many flavors.

Everyone has a great time listening to the performers, enjoying music and sharing the time of culture and fellowship.
