Book Character Parade not about Halloween

By Ms. Toni Fisher

The Varnett School Northeast Campus hosted its annual Book Character Parade (watch video) on October 31, 2018. This event concludes our literacy week at the NE campus. Last night parents and students participated in Family Literacy Night and purchased books from the Scholastic Book Fair.

Today our parade involved students from PreK through fifth grade participated. We were fearful of the forecast but the weather held up and we were able to have our parade as scheduled.

We encouraged students to bring their book to the parade and wear the costumes of their favorite character to school this morning. Students from all grades, parents, teachers and Dr. Margaret Stroud, superintendent of The Varnett Public School, were along the parade route.

Not only did the students participate in the parade but teachers also took part, including myself who was dressed as Raggedy Ann Clown. The parade started promptly at 9 a.m. with a performance from our Varnett NE Dance team. (Video)

The parade continued throughout the school grounds and ended with another performance from our dance team.  The Book Character Parade was a huge success and we would like to thank all who participated.
