Thanks for your support; much work ahead

Dear Parents:

As we draw near to the end of the semester, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your overwhelmingly positive support during the first semester.  As the holiday season approaches we encourage you to take time to reflect on this past year and all of the successes we have experienced. Our students and teachers have continued to put their best foot forward and have demonstrated a wealth of school spirit and a dedication to working their hardest.

The first three months of the school year were packed with many exciting lessons, special assemblies, holiday festivities and immeasurable learning opportunities. I am very impressed by the number of students being taught with the latest technology in the classroom, including Google classroom and Reasoning Minds.

We are excited about the many extracurricular activities that are lined up this winter season. The soccer team has four scheduled games and the next sport will be basketball. In addition, our dance and cheer team will participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade as well as perform at the Houston Livestock Black Heritage Day.

I would like to commend the efforts of the Student Council for setting up the food drive to help other families in need. The food will be donated to the Houston Food Bank.  You can still make a contribution until Dec. 20 by bringing in a non-perishable food item.

Upon our return in January,  we still have so much work to do. We must ensure that we continue to improve our attendance. Please send your children to school each day and refrain from making doctors'  appointments before 3 p.m.  It is imperative that students report to school daily and receive a full day of instruction.

When we return we will continue to enforce our district-wide uniform policy. Students must be in the proper uniform daily.  Parents will be notified in the event students are not in uniform. The uniform policy is online if you need further information.

The Varnett Public School will be closed to students from Dec. 21 through Jan. 7, 2019 and we will reopen on Jan. 8, 2019.  Have a safe and restful holiday season.

Happy Holidays.

Ms. Toni Fisher

Director, The Varnett School Northeast
