Newly elected judge visits Northeast campus on Girls Day; offers encouragement

The Northeast campus designated March 24, 2023, as Girls' Day in celebration of Women's History Month.

Girls from pre-k through 8th grade were encouraged to dress up in their favorite Sunday attire as they welcomed Ms. Pamela Medina, who on January 1, 2023, assumed office as a judge of the Harris County Probate Court No. 2 in Texas after her general election win on November 8, 2022.

Ms. Kanika Bazzell, the Northeast campus ESL teacher, met Ms. Medina at a conference and asked her to visit the campus and tell our girls that anything is possible with perseverance and hard work.

Ms. Medina attended the Gifted and Talented Vanguard program in the Houston Independent School District. She earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin and spent six years teaching special needs and bilingual/ESL students at HISD.

She didn't stop there, she told the Northeast students. She followed her life's dream and earned a law degree from Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2007. According to Ballotpedia, she worked as an attorney in trusts and estates and as a law clerk with a Harris County civil district court before assuming office as a probate judge.

We thank Judge Medina for taking the time to talk to our impressionable students at the Northeast campus!
