Teachers, instructional coach win top prizes as educators of the year

Ms. Onuaku, a fourth-grade teacher, was named Teacher of the Year at the Northeast campus.

Ms. Green was Instructional Coach of the Year and Ms. Love was Substitute Teacher of the Year.

The honorees were elected by a vote of their peers and the votes were tallied on May 11, 2023. The results were announced by Dr. Toron Wooldridge, the campus director.

The recognition of the three educators came during National Teacher Appreciation Week, which this year was celebrated May 8-12.

"Teachers play a critical role in driving the success of our children’s education and lives," the National PTA said in a statement. "They are the ones who inspire and guide our kids to become future leaders, innovators and problem solvers."

Ms. Onuaku and Ms. Green received a plaque and a tablet. Ms. Love received a laptop bag with a plaque and some goodies.

In addition, Dr. Nita White, superintendent of The Varnett Public School, provided cupcakes to employees throughout the district and wooden pencils bearing the name of each teacher and support staff member.
